The Beginner to RYA Day Skipper course practical and theory course is ideal for those who want to build skills and gain knowledge and experience in order to be able to skipper a yacht safely with confidence in familiar waters by day. At the end of this 2 week course you will be able to skipper a yacht in short passages and operate a short-range VHF radio with DSC. This course includes the online RYA Day Skipper theory course – around 40 hours online and the back-to-back RYA Competent Crew and RYA Day Skipper practical. We will work on yacht handling techniques under sail and power and we will develop together your skippering skills. During the second week, you will prepare passage plans, you will navigate, will organize a night sail and you will be in charge at times to gain experience as a skipper.

The Weekly Schedule

• On day one you will join the yacht and you will meet the rest of the crew and your instructor. Upon arrival, you will be welcomed and briefed by your instructor about the basics regards the yacht and the surroundings. • On Sunday afternoon the Day Skipper candidates will have the chance to revise the theory and the Competent Crew candidates can familiarise themselves with the yacht and her equipment.
• The Beginner to RYA Day Skipper course starts on Monday morning from our base in Lefkas (Sivota Bay) and finishes on Friday afternoon. We have a fun morning on Saturday and around noon we return to our base. You have a free Sunday on week one and we start again on Monday morning on week two.

The RYA Competent Crew course is ideal for beginners. It’s the ideal course for those who want to be active crew members and not just passengers and for those who want to learn the basics and gain experience to move to the next step.

This is the most popular course in the syllabus. This certificate represents the standard required to skipper a yacht in numerous worldwide destination. A course for aspiring skippers with some yachting experience and basic navigation and sailing skills.
Minimum age: 16
Experience: 5 days, 100 miles, 4 night hours on board a sailing yacht
Assumed knowledge: Theory to the level of Day Skipper. It is recommended you obtain the Day Skipper shorebased course beforehand or do an online theory course before you come.

The RYA Day Skipper practical course is ideal for those who want to improve their skills, expand their knowledge, and gain experience to be able to skipper a yacht safely with confidence in familiar waters by day. At the end of this course, you will be able to skipper a yacht in short passages. This course is more intense than the Competent Crew course as we will go deeper into all of the aspects of the Day Skipper theory and we will transfer everything you learned on the theory course into practice. We will work on yacht handling techniques under sail and power and we will develop together your skippering skills. During the week you will prepare passage plans, you will navigate, you will organise a night sail and you will be in charge at times to gain experience as a skipper.

Advanced skippering techniques requiring considerable knowledge of sailing and navigation, aimed at those skippers wanting to undertake coastal passages by day and night.

Experience: 15 days, 2 days as skipper, 300 miles, 8 night hours
Assumed Skills: Boat handling to the standard of Day Skipper
Assumed knowledge: Navigation to shorebased Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster™ Offshore

The RYA Coastal Skipper course is the ideal practical course to follow the RYA Day Skipper. It is also considered the stepping stone to an MCA / RYA examination.

An already qualified and experienced sailor will get the confidence to undertake longer and more difficult passages, as this course is designed by aiming exactly on this.

To gain the confidence you need for coastal and offshore passages your instructor will guide you through practical exercises and chart work to improve your boat handling, your navigation, and leadership skills.

An RYA Yachtmaster™ Certificate of Competence is often the ultimate aim of aspiring skippers. It is a well known, highly respected qualification worldwide, proving your experience and competence as a skipper. Unlike other courses in the cruising programme, there is no formal training to complete to become a Yachtmaster™. Instead, provided that you have sufficient experience and sea time, you can put yourself forward for an exam to test your skills and knowledge. We can provide a range of training and preparation courses for you, please contact us for more information.

The RYA Powerboat L1-L2 practical course provides the skills and background knowledge needed by the competent powerboat driver. It is the ideal course for beginners and for those who want to expand their knowledge and improve their skills.

• The duration of the course is two days, in which you will be trained by one of our Powerboat instructors on practical tasks and navigation.
• The course is conducted in our classroom and on our training boat in the Bay of Sivota and in the surrounding area. It is expected to visit other ports where we usually practice boat handling before and after lunch.
• The RYA Powerboat Certificate Level 2 is accepted by most authorities worldwide. RYA Powerboat Level 2 holders can apply for an ICC (International Certificate of Competence) without any further exams.

The RYA Catamaran Training course follows the RYA Competent Crew & RYA Day Skipper syllabus and is adjusted to Catamaran sailing and power handling techniques. Our booking department team will help you to choose the right Catamaran for you.  This course is delivered only Privately so you can combine your Training with holidays with your family or Friends. 

• Most suitable courses for Catamaran owners or future Catamaran owners. 
• Generally learning how to sail should be done on a monohull sailboat. The feeling of sailing, the amount a sailboat heels over depending on your actions/reefing, the thrill is so much different on a monohull.

Yachts: Our yachts on the Mile building trips are a Beneteau Oceanis 51.1 and a Jeanneau 49 Sun Odyssey which is a good size for our 4 weeks adventure. With 5+1 & 4 Double en Suite cabins it’s a very comfortable size for our rather long trip. We also carry equipment for water activities you can use for free, for instance, snorkeling, kayaking, and SUP.
